This past week we did some hands on training with tools, plant id, and collecting data. We learned to collect data to complete a water profile (I think that is what it is called). We learned to take the air and water temperature, wind speed and direction, salinity, pH, depth to ground water, wave height, wave strength, and sand size. It very interesting. We also learned how to study animal habitats by collecting and measuring organisms in a certain area. This past week we have been very busy because we also learned about invasive species such as bitter sweet, mutliflora rose, and honey suckle. We then went to an area and clear out a ton of overgrowth so the community could use the area for benches. Here are some pictures of what I have been up to the past week.
1) Testing out waders for holes.

2) Checking the water salinity

3) Collecting plankton

4) Attempting to take the water temperature. It is a lot harder then you think because of the waves. LOL
5) Helping to make a bench.
6) Before we cleared the area and save the tree in the background. :)

7) After clearing the area. You can see the tree now.

Hey Nicole! Sounds like you're working your tush off...just like being at Bay Trail after all. LOL I'm enjoying all of your adventures thus far, can't wait to see what will happen next. It's like reading/watching Big Brother or another one of those reality tv shows. Looking forward to the cat fights and back stabbing. Just kidding. I'm glad you're surviving so far. Thanks for including so many pics - totally something I would do. I never set my camera down when I'm traveling. Maybe we should've went into photographic journalism instead of teaching. Hope you have a great week. I'll keep you updated on BT - nothing much to report except the construction is crazy some days. Take care.
Nicole
I am so excited for you. What an adventure and it has only just begun. I am thinking of my 14 hour day tomorrow with open house and parent meeting and thinking I would love to be somewhere else. What a nice refresher to hear & see your journey. It seems like so much fun but a lot of hard work. I am sorry we didn’t connect before you left but you know too well how getting ready for school goes. I used you analogy of it being like Christmas often during the first week. I am so happy for you. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Take care.
